With nearly 1½ hours of instruction, four camera views, and four timeless
and very popular Slow and Romantic dances, Shawn and Joanna Trautman will
build your confidence and have you dancing along with them… literally. The
design of the curriculum and camera placement for the DVDs allows the
leaders to do the EXACT movements that Shawn presents, and it allows the
followers to mimic Joanna in real time without having to turn away from
the screen. In addition to learning along with the instructors with
split-screen formatting, you’ll also get to dance each dance with music
alongside the instructors at the end of each section. With nearly two
decades of experience, a number of World Champion students to their
credit, and their recently published book “Picture Yourself Dancing:
Step-by-Step Instruction for Ballroom, Latin, Country, and More”, Shawn
and Joanna have perfected the basic elements of each dance while
specializing in the leading and following aspects which are extremely hard
to find. Shawn and Joanna will demonstrate, explain, and teach you to lead
and follow the Slow Dance, the Rumba, the Waltz, and the Nightclub
Two-Step so you can dance anywhere with anyone, rather than just learning
a single step that can only be done with your partner. This innovative DVD
compilation teaches the basics and the most essential steps for beginners,
which is perfect for gift-giving to friends, family, co-workers, or
yourself. This DVD is best used as a starting point that will help you
quickly accelerate your way through Shawn Trautman’s Dance Collection in
its entirety where you’ll have your choice of more than 20 highly-rated
full-length beginner dance instruction DVDs. Owning this DVD is the
equivalent of having your own private instruction at home – over and over
and over. If you’re looking to learn to dance from proven instructors and
not just see flashy moves that are impossible to execute, then the Dance
Sampler series is for you. Aprox 90 mins. (2006) DVD-All-Region.

teaches you techniques and tricks that are not available anywhere else, all in the
privacy of your own home. What youll learn:
Square Dance: Learn the square dance, a technique used in competitions to

back. This maneuver is for slow to medium salsas and consists of a square pattern, and can
be used as a warm-up instead of stretching.
The Knee: Learn a flashy technique called The Knee. The leader crouches on
one knee and leads the follower back and forth. Leaders jump back up, catch the
followers hand, and continue dancing.
Dip essentials: Learn dip essentials for salsa. Marlon and
Suzie explain how the leader should wrap his arms around his partner's
back to give her confidence and balance. This is the safest way to dip. Once the follower
is lowered and caught, begin to twist in place. Follow this method and avoid injury.
Dip Variations: Learn some variations to spice up your dips, including Neck
Combinations and Tango Dips. Leaders should make sure their arms stay bent instead of
locked to prevent injury. Also included are some important tips for safety and balance.
Leaders Blender: Mix it up with the Blender technique! This complex
spinning maneuver requires total control in the spins of both followers and leaders. The
resulting motion resembles a blender. Also included are tips on maintaining balance while
switching direction and avoiding dizziness.
Followers Blender: Now that the leaders have learned the blender, the
followers need to know their role. Both leaders and followers must exhibit total control
in their spins. Instructor Marlon and his partner, Suzie, demonstrate how to
add different combinations to the end of the blender.
Reverse: Learn how to reverse any combination, including how to change hand
positions that enable the leader to switch from a counterclockwise to a clockwise
rotation. Several different combination reversals are illustrated.
Topspin: The Topspin is a combination that requires a strong leader and a
follower who can spin with the right technique. Marlon offers a detailed look at the
complex handwork! When executed correctly, the motion resembles the spinning of a top, and
requires tremendous control on the follower's part.
The Spool Up: A combination that requires a lot of control on the followers
side, the Spool Up starts with the leader spinning the follower's knee, moving up the body
to the waist and hands, and then moving back down again. You can spice up the combination
by adding The Blender combination or ending with a split. Also included is how to signal
the follower to spin and how to change the direction of the spin.

The Art of Baroque Dance: Folies d'Espagne from Page to Stage Video
In this important DVD, one
famous dance, “Folies d’Espagne", is beautifully explored. This popular
dance, with its music, has been selected because it features short highly
expressive pieces. Each variation has its own temperament, which is
inspiration for that choreography. By viewing the re-creation of this one
Baroque dance, "Folies d’Espagne", the viewer can trace five important
characteristics portrayed in this dance performance: Dance notation;
treatment of space; arm embellishments; relation to music; and
interpretation of the dancer. Thus, this video explores the creative
process of researching, reconstructing, re-creating, and performing a
Baroque dance. This DVD will explore the elements that enable us to better
understand the historical preservation of dance, from the academic page to
its transformation into a vibrant performance. This fascinating video
produced in France, reveals the 17th century Baroque dance of the
sophisticated era of King Louis XIV. The King, himself an excellent
dancer, ordered the invention of a notation system for dance to teach,
codify, and spread this art. The French still continue to celebrate 17th
century dance today. It is considered to be the most perfect form of art,
uniting all of the qualities needed to educate one’s body and soul.
Created by dancers in Paris, this video is generously layered with a
wealth of historic architectural and artistic images. The video’s
director/choreographer, Natalie Van Parys, has an outstanding French
Baroque heritage. Through this video, her lifetime of knowledge and
experience enable the next generation to appreciate a venerable art from
the past. The public will be able to uncover the secrets of the
interpretation of a dance, discover its beauty, better understand the
elegance and virtuosity of the French Baroque style, and enter into the
world of the very close relationship that existed between dance and music
in the 17th century. 45 mins. (2006) DVD-All-Region.
